How to Convert Evaporated Milk into Condensed Milk
Have you ever started a recipe then realized you don’t have one of the ingredients? I wanted to make Magic Cookie Bars today, but realized I only had evaporated milk and not condensed milk. Instead of running to the store to buy condensed milk, which by the way is at least twice the price as evaporated milk, I decided to search for a substitute. Here is the recipe I found and it worked out great!
To make condensed milk, use the following ratio:
for every 1 cup of evaporated milk add 1 1/4 cup of sugar.
In a sauce pan, heat the milk and sugar on low temperature until the sugar has dissolved completely stirring frequently.
Once all the sugar is dissolved, remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool completely.
