TRADISIONELE BOERE GROENBOONTJIES MET AARTAPPELS IDEES
Sandre Macleod:
I cut up the green beans, put it in the pot, slice the potatoes (just one) into this slices or little blocks. Same with the onions, slice thin or diced finely. I add water to cover it all, then bring it to boil and turn down to simmer for about twenty minutes, but keep a watch on the water. Once the beans feel soft and or the potatoes are softly broken by a fork you can take it off the stove. I coarsely mash it all together and add a nob of butter through with salt and pepper to taste, works every time,
Geraldene Camons Cartwright:
Die Boere oumas en groot oumas het ook altyd ‘n stukkie skaapvet saam met die groen bone, aartappel en ui gekook. Dit is die egte boere manier van groenbone kook.
Roelien Botha:
I fry the onions, finely chopped, first. Cut the potatos in small cubes, almost the same size as the finely chopped beans. Just enough water to cover it, boil until soft over medium heat. At the end of the cooking process add salt and white pepper to taste, together with a generous amount of real butter.
Estelle Leach:
My mother always put a smallish piece of lamb with it and cooked it like that. She would put in the onion piece of lamb and a chopped tomato with it and boil it together. 10 m later put in the potatoes. When its soft she removed the piece of lamb an bone mashed it with butter pepper.
Helene Pienaar:
Ek hou van baie sagte boontjies. Ek kook hulle alleen tot half sag gooi dan die aartappels in blokkies gesny by en kook tot sag en alle water weggekook is voeg dan sout en baie peper by. Braai baie uie apart in BOTTER. Voeg by boontjies moenie weer kook nie. Die gebraaide ui gee baie lekker smaak aan boontjies. As jy dit weer kook gaan die gebraaide uie smaak verlore. Meng n bietjie botter by. Heerlik. Probeer om geel boontjies te kry in Plaas van groen. Baie lekkerder.
Carolynn Reynolds Botha:
Beans, onion, potato, tomato, stock cube and piece of mutton. When all soft (I like it very soft) – strain off excess water, mash roughly and add big blob of butter. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Lorett Brittnell I start by frying onions in real butter till golden brown. Then add the beans and potato with salt and black pepper and water
Lorett Brittnell:
I start by frying onions in real butter till golden brown. Then add the beans and potato with salt and black pepper and water. Boil until soft and very little moisture. Mash a few pieces of potato and adjust the salt and pepper and put in another knob of butter and stir.
Laetitia Cilliers:
I put my beans in. Then onion and potato cubes on top fill half with water. I cook on medium for at least an hour. Until beans are tender. Add a little water if it goes dry before tender each time. Once its tender simmer until dry. Add butter (I use stork) and salt and pepper only once it’s done. Now you mash it and dish up. We don’t add mutton.
