HOW TO SAVE THE FLOPS
Every once in a while, your baking doesn’t always come out as you expected. Don’t throw it away;
Snowflake has a few great ideas to make the best out of your flops.
Pretty petit fours
To make these lovely French treats: Cut the cake into 3 cm squares and sandwich them together with
apricot jam. Pour over glacé icing and decorate to your liking.
Lovely lamingtons
A real British favourite, Lamingtons are a lovely teatime treat. All you have to do is cut the cake into
squares. Dip the pieces into chocolate icing and roll in desiccated coconut, vermicelli or try chopped nuts.
A tremendous trifle
Everybody loves a trifle and it is an excellent way to use left over cake or a cake that did not turn out as
well as you would have like. Follow our Fruity Trifle recipe for best results and instead of using a madeira
cake, use your leftover cake slices.
Fresh cake crumbs can also be used for trifle.
Truffles or steamed puddings
Use the smaller left over slices from sponge cakes to make crumbs. Make truffles or steamed puddings.
You can even substitute breadcrumbs with cake crumbs.
Gorgeous gâteau
Cut the cake horizontally into three or four layers. Spread some custard and cream over each layer.
Assemble and decorate it any way you like. Simply delicious.
An easy ring cake
Banish that sinking feeling when a cake has sunk in the centre. All you have to do is cut out the sunken
cake and make a ring cake. Fill the centre of the ring with fresh fruit and decorate.
