CHILDRENS MEAL IDEAS
If you need some inspiration to help you cook healthy and tasty food for your kids, try these meal ideas. These meals are not suitable as first foods but fine once your baby is older and used to eating a wide range of solid foods.
When preparing food for children, don’t add salt, sugar or stock cubes directly to the food, or to the cooking water.
Whole cows’ milk can be given as a drink from the age of one. Semi-skimmed milk can be introduced at two years old, provided your child is a good eater and growing well for their age.

Put their favourite vegetables or canned pineapple on top of pizza
Give carrot sticks, slices of pepper and peeled apple for snacks
Mix chopped or mashed vegetables with rice, mashed potatoes, meat sauces or dhal
Mix fruit (fresh, canned or stewed) with yoghurt or fromage frais for a tasty dessert
Chop prunes or dried apricots into cereal or yoghurt, or add them to a stew

HOW TO COOK GROUND BEEF FOR A BABY
Step 1
Place a frying pan on the stovetop set to a low- to medium-heat. Put enough oil, such as sunflower or groundnut, into the pan so that the bottom is covered with a thin layer.
Step 2
Add the ground mince to the pan, breaking it into small pieces with a wooden spoon as it warms up.
Step 3
Turn the beef with the wooden spoon so that it is browned all over.
Step 4
Simmer the ground beef gently for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Check for readiness by sampling a spoonful – it needs to be cooked right through.
Step 5
Drain excess fat from the pan and puree the beef in a food processor. Skip this step if your baby can already manage ground beef.
Step 6
Combine the beef with other foods, if desired, and serve.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
Serve ground beef mixed with mashed potato or pureed carrot. Mix with some well-done pasta for slightly older babies. Choose lean ground beef for your baby, with at least 80 percent lean meat.
